Shelby High Football hasn't been about great players. Some do stand out, and there have been a few play Division 1 college ball with moderate success. Great individual stats for Shelby are not that numerous. It has been a team thing all along.

Individual Awards
C.C. Horn Award
The C.C. Horn Award was the first trophy ever given specifically for football at Shelby High. It was started in 1959 and is given to the senior player who made the greatest contribution to Shelby football during his high school career. The selection is made by the football coaching staff.
The donor of this award is one of the best sports fans Shelby ever had. Mr. Horn seldom misses a sporting event in the Shelby area. He is an especially loyal follower of the Shelby High Golden Lions. His love for sports started as a high school student at Old Boiling Springs High School and continued when he enrolled at Wake Forest College. At Wake Forest, Mr. Horn was one of the school's first cheerleaders. After graduating from Wake Forest Law School, Mr. Horn returned to Shelby where he practiced law and has been a great supporter of Shelby football for forty-eight years.

Since 1964, the football coaching staff at Shelby High has chosen a player to receive the Coaches Award at the Annual Lions Club Football Banquet.
